ABSTRACT
Biggs, A. R., D. D. Davis, and W. Merrill. 1983. Cutting development and restriction of wound-associated infection in Populus. Can. J. Plant Pathol. 5:269-272.
Cuttings of Populus hybrid NE-388' (P. Maximowiczii x trichocarpa) were inoculated at regular intervals after planting with mycelium of Cytospora chrysosperma. Canker size after 1 week was positively correlated with preinoculation bark relative turgidity as well as root and shoot length, and negatively correlated with preinoculation bark water potential. A positive correlation existed between preinoculation bark water status, stage of cutting development, and rate of initiation of phellogen regeneration.
