Career Opportunities for Graduates
Students from our college excel in many career fields after graduation. Today the opportunities are limitless for students graduating with degrees in the broad areas of agriculture, forestry, and consumer sciences, with job availability and demand for people with these degrees increasing.
Graduates
from our agricultural program areas, which include animal and food
sciences, plant and soil sciences, and resource management, may find
employment as plant and animal research scientists, professional nutritionists and dieticians, food inspectors,
in retail management positions for stores such as Southern States
and Tractor Supply Company, farm and feedlot managers, agricultural
consultants, agricultural extension agents, high school agriculture
teachers, greenhouse and nursery operators, professional landscape
architects and pharmaceutical sales representatives. These graduates
are also qualified to work in state and national government agencies
such as the USDA, state departments of agriculture, or EPA. Graduates of our forestry programs are well qualified for positions as professional foresters with government agencies, or may find employment with private forest wood products industries including lumber and wood products, and pulp and paper companies. Others work for forestry consulting firms or establish their own businesses. Students within this area of study who emphasize recreation, parks, and tourism may be employed by city, state, and national parks, tourism organizations, commercial recreation businesses, or conservation agencies. The forestry program area also provides opportunities for students wishing to emphasize wildlife and fisheries resources. These students typically find employment in government conservation agencies and environmental protection organizations, or environmental consulting agencies. |

Many graduates from our college choose to attend graduate school at WVU or at other colleges and universities in order to obtain Master’s degrees, Doctorate degrees, or enter veterinary medical schools, law schools, dentistry schools or medical schools. The Davis College at WVU offers 18 Bachelor’s degrees, 16 Master’s degrees, and 6 doctoral degrees in many specialized areas within agriculture, forestry, and consumer sciences.
