Career Opportunities for Graduates

Students from our college excel in many career fields after graduation. Today the opportunities are limitless for students graduating with degrees in the broad areas of agriculture, forestry, and consumer sciences, with job availability and demand for people with these degrees increasing.

Graduates from our agricultural program areas, which include animal and food sciences, plant and soil sciences, and resource management, may find employment as plant and animal research scientists, professional nutritionists and dieticians, food inspectors, in retail management positions for stores such as Southern States and Tractor Supply Company, farm and feedlot managers, agricultural consultants, agricultural extension agents, high school agriculture teachers, greenhouse and nursery operators, professional landscape architects and pharmaceutical sales representatives. These graduates are also qualified to work in state and national government agencies such as the USDA, state departments of agriculture, or EPA.

Students graduating with degrees from our design and merchandising program areas may become interior designers, clothing designers, sales representatives, clothing buyers for department stores such as Sax 5th Avenue, Ralph Lauren, Bloomingdale’s, Calvin Klein, among others, or fashion journalists.

Graduates of our forestry programs are well qualified for positions as professional foresters with government agencies, or may find employment with private forest wood products industries including lumber and wood products, and pulp and paper companies. Others work for forestry consulting firms or establish their own businesses. Students within this area of study who emphasize recreation, parks, and tourism may be employed by city, state, and national parks, tourism organizations, commercial recreation businesses, or conservation agencies. The forestry program area also provides opportunities for students wishing to emphasize wildlife and fisheries resources. These students typically find employment in government conservation agencies and environmental protection organizations, or environmental consulting agencies.
