Other MLO Diseases on Peach and Nectarine
I. Introduction: Other diseases caused by mycoplasma-like organisms include peach yellows (see photo), little peach, and peach rosette. Leafhopper-transmitted peach yellows tends to be more prominent following a reduced spray program in a light crop year. Some orchards have had 10 percent of the trees infected in one year.
II. Symptoms: The above diseases are characterized by shoot proliferation, greatly reduced growth, and leaf yellowing. Fruit that are produced tend to be of low quality and lack flavor. Affected trees survive two to three years.
III. Be aware of the symptoms of these diseases. No routine monitoring is required.
