Research Interests:
I am the director of the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences. As Director I have the responsibility to provide program leadership, budget accountability and overall supervision in the areas of research and teaching. Research responsibilities include workong with faculty to develop Hatch research proposals that address problems of the State and region, assist and encourage faculty to develop proposals for external funding, and help secure and maintain support for research.
Teaching responsibilities involve working with faculty to develop curricula, provide teaching support and maintain instructional records and schedules. In both research and teaching there are numerous administrative responsibilities accociated with obtaining supplies, paying invoices, corresponding with clientele and students, employing faculty and staff, operating farms for researach and teaching purposes and completing requests for information on what the Division does. It is my responsibility to provide overall administrative supervision for the Division and through the office staff to be a facilitator for faculty so they can accomplish their assigned tasks in research and teaching.
As Division Director it is my responsibility to represent and when necessary advocate for the needs of the Division within the University system and be in contact with the people whom we serve or whom support our programs. It is also my responsibility to evaluate performance and allocate resources. Upon occasion I teach courses, give guest lectures, and provide educational programs to producers. I serve on a number of committees within the State and region in part as a result of my position as Division Director.
