A Commitment to Natural Resources
Education and Research for West Virginia
The 7,800 acre University Forest is a central component of West Virginia University's natural resources programs. Student field activities, research projects, and public educational programs all take place there. The use of the University Forest by students, teachers, and cooperating researchers has increased significantly in recent years. In addition to its traditional use as an outdoor lab for teaching and a place for forest research, the University Forest also has the potential to become a showplace for demonstration of natural resources management and research in West Virginia.
The
already extensive teaching activities at the University Forest are enhanced
by the large classroom, audio-visual, and other instructional facilities
provided by the Center. Public and professional workshops and other meetings
at the Center increase the exposure of the Division
of Forestry's activities to more people. Day-to-day management of the
University Forest is significantly enhanced through facilities to house
management information systems, mapping facilities, and field research
equipment.
The Westvaco Natural Resources Center is a long-term commitment to professional education in West Virginia.
