The Westvaco Natural Resources Center, located in the heart of the West Virginia University Forest, opened officially in a dedication ceremony held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997. The generous donations of individuals and industrial partners has made this multi-purpose space possible, greatly enhancing the teaching, research, and public service missions of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences at West Virginia University.

To quote John Luke, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of the Westvaco Corporation:

"We are confident that the proposed laboratory, classroom, and conference facility on the University Forest will significantly enhance the capacity of the Division of Forestry to carry out needed research in forest management. Its utility as a training center for students in the natural resources professions reaffirms Westvaco's commitment to fostering excellence in education. Including facilities for small conferences in the Center's design will provide for technology transfer, exchange of research results, and technical and economic information between the University and other segments of the natural resources community."
