Welcome to the West Virginia
Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station.
The research programs of the West Virginia
Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station provide information and
opportunity that benefits individual well-being, industry, community
development, and governing bodies, in West Virginia and far beyond.
Faculty researchers are involved in innovative, multidisciplinary research
projects addressing diverse areas of inquiry. Teams are exploring the
economic possibilities of aquaculture and sheep production for West
Virginia and the region. Water quality issues are being explored from a
range of perspectives. Geneticists are mapping the roots of cancer in
human DNA. The Davis is home to one of the world's largest collections of
fungi. Our researchers collaborate with multi-state research teams on
projects that could help restore the American Chestnut. Forest scientists
explore the links between fire prevention and profit, while wildlife
research focuses on habitat use. Community development initiatives help
cities and towns maximize their resources and guide the development of a
Forest Heritage Trail to promote tourism and education. In the family and
consumer sciences arena, exploration is underway into the roots of anemia
and the impact of pop culture on self-esteem.
Our research agenda reaches into some of
the most basic needs of society – the food we eat, the resources we use to
build our homes and businesses, and our individual health and
safety.
