Examine Long-Term Soil Calcium Flux Rates As Part of An On-Going Study Of Nutrient Cycling In Two Small Watersheds At The WVU Forest

Investigators: Hicks, R. R.

Performing Department: Forestry -- 1240

Start Date: 10/01/2000

Termination Date: 09/30/2005

Reporting period: 01/01/2001 to 12/31/2001

Report has not yet been submitted to CRIS. Progress Report: Weekly water sample collections are continuing at the two small watersheds on different aspects at the West Virginia University Forest. In addition precipitation water is collected at the same interval. The watershed draining the north-facing slope and containing mesophytic hardwood species continues to produce water with higher concentrations of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus than the watershed draining the south-facing slope.

Impact:

This project is a long-running study of mineral nutrient cycling in small forested watersheds. It serves as a baseline reference for mineral cycling in the mid-Appalachian region.
