advisable in early October to stop grazing pastures that have been closely grazed, so that a growth of about 3 inches may be made and root rest stored before winter. Pastures that have not been grazed closely ma stocked considerably later than closely grazed pastures, as it is advantageous to remove as much of the old herbage as possible after growth has ceased in order to provide more favorable conditions for grazing the following year.

Control of thornbush encroachments

Encroachments of wild thorn, wild apple, brier rose, blackberry, h hack, and other trees and shrubs, are usually associated with a low of fertility and with bad grazing management. Effective control meat consist of cutting the bushes to ground level or pulling them out, fertilizing and grazing the pasture as previously suggested (pages 5 25). Stock will graze the young shoots along with the other herbage, the plants are soon destroyed by this treatment.
